Gold
Gold (nebu in ancient Egyptian) was a powerful symbol of divinity, immortality and royal authority in ancient Egypt. Revered as the “flesh of the gods”, it was closely associated with Ra, the sun god, ensuring the protection of the soul in the afterlife. The Eastern Desert, rich in gold deposits, became a critical region for mining. During the 30th Dynasty, Egypt began minting its first gold coins. This marked a shift towards more formal trade, enhancing Egypt's financial influence. Among the most significant gold artifacts is the golden mask of Tutankhamun, discovered in the Valley of the Kings, made of solid gold and weighing 10 kilograms and now displayed in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.

Eastern Desert
The Eastern Desert now offers visitors the chance to follow in the footsteps of the pharaohs. Travelers can explore ancient quarry sites etched with hieroglyphs, join desert safaris across sweeping dunes, or trek through wadis where royal caravans once passed. Adventurers can enjoy camel rides, hiking trails, and stargazing under crystal-clear skies, while others visit Bedouin communities to experience their traditions and hospitality. The region also attracts photographers and nature lovers, drawn to its striking landscapes and rare wildlife.
